Grail dancer is based on the hull lines of the Emma C. Berry-an 1866 Noank well-smack currently located at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut

She is rigged instead as a main tops’l schooner

After 15 years of cruising the challenging west coast of B.C. , Canada with an aging couple as crew, she has proven herself to be comfortable and reliable under all circumstances . The decision to part with her has been a painful one, but the time has come for us to move on . She is looking for someone to love and care for her.

Stoutly built of classic design, but with modern systems, Grail Dancer is easy  for a small crew to handle.

.Heavily built to original scantlings with double sawn frames and heavy bilge stringers . Wedged trunnels of yew wood are supplemented with galvanized fastenings. Decks are of a more modern heavy strip plank construction with elastometric overlay. This vessel is well equipped with up-to-date domestic systems and navigation electronics. It has been repaired , maintained and upgraded regularly. Wiring, electronics and charging systems are superior : engine, mechanical, sails and deck gear are maintained and augmented as needed. This unique and well maintained vessel carries her heritage with head-turning grace.

THE    BUILDER

Wayne 's reputation as a shipwright is well earned. His career began in 1972 with the purchase of a wooden boat , which necessitated learning the 'skills of the trade'. In 1984 he became part of the building crew for the 'Spirit of Chemainus' an 84' brigantine , launched in 1986 on Vancouver Island. He was also involved in the building of the 100' tall ship Pacific Swift which was built in Vancouver  for the Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) .Wayne then secured a contract with Parks Canada to undertake the complete restoration of the SS Keno - a 140' paddlewheel ship located in Dawson, Yukon. Upon the successful completion of that contract, he was again hired by Parks Canada to restore the SS Klondike - a 210' paddlewheeler located in Whitehorse, Yukon. That project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget and that same year, 2000, the Grail Dancer was launched.
